Environment Agency Wales Case Study
- Client:
- Environment Agency Wales (EAW)
- Project:
- Facilitation as part of 'Confident Communication'
‘We always found TSOC to be flexible, professional and understanding of our emerging priorities (mission creep). They never failed to meet a deadline, met our expectations re green practices and made huge efforts to understand our culture, history and aspirations. TSOC were always able to supply the variety of people we needed – OD experts, coaches, facilitators and actors. All of these people, whether TSOC employees or partners, maintained the professional standards we had come to take for granted.’
HR Manager
Result: Many managers were skeptical about their invited guests actually attending, and needed convincing that this was a worthwhile activity. In fact, partners were most enthusiastic, and feedback was excellent; EAW managers have now created much more productive relationships with their partners, and are able to take up the role of influential advisor instead of ‘environmental policeman’.
Situation: As part of a 15-month ‘Confident Communication’ programme with Environment Agency Wales, we designed and delivered three ‘Partner Conferences’, in north, south, and southwest Wales. The conferences had approximately 80 delegates on each occasion, 50% of whom were EAW partners or external stakeholders.
Task: Our job was not only to design, project manage, and deliver the events, but also to fully prepare the managers who would be ‘hosting’ EAW partners.
Action: TSOC provided them with essential communication techniques; worked on exhibiting partner-oriented behaviours rather than those of a pure regulator; and explored how they could better make presentations, establish rapport, and host a round-table discussion.
As part of the conference, we commissioned a short film about climate change in the principality – ‘Wales 2050’ – and brought in a live production, in which actors presented some of the latest climate change research and debate. The ‘Wales 2050’ newscast was researched and written by TSOC.
In addition, our talented graphic facilitators captured the discussions and debates in pictures.
