developing your leadership style
An executive wanted to develop a new, more flexible leadership style to help him better manage new responsibilities with demanding deadlines.
He wanted to develop as a player; his instinctive style was found by some colleagues to be too direct and potentially confrontational. At the same time the coachee needed to avoid the energy drain of being too distracted by developing and maintaining a new leadership style.
Key moments
Fewer tirades, fewer anecdotes; more reflection, more listening.
Critical results
The coachee’s original confrontational style was about pressure; coaching helped him face increased pressure and become more collegiate.
As a result of live 360 degree feedback from peers, and coaching with Lyn Bicker (above), the executive felt ‘part of the solution, n ot part of the problem’. He felt comfortable with his more flexible style.
