What do you see when a manager becomes a leader? (Q. LinkedIn)

Managing Director Lyn Bicker's question on LinkedIn and her rated Best Answer.

Lyn asked: What do you see when a manager becomes a leader?

There are many theories about the difference between management and leadership, and huge amounts of research on leadership itself - as a leadership coach and developer I've become very familiar with both past and current thinking.

But what I want to know is what leadership looks like when a manager has taken on the new mantle.

Has some fairy dust been sprinkled? Does the leader suddenly start walking tall? Is there a recognisable change in demeanour, in habits, in style? Or is there a more subtle change - is it more about visibly listening to and valuing others, or getting out of the way of others' success?

Love to have both opinion and examples!
