Myers Briggs Type Indicator
TSOC uses the MBTI personality type tool as part of bespoke work for core leadership development programmes, improving communication, executive business coaching, and for organisational coaching. With group facilitation activities such as team development workshops, it is a useful tool for raising awareness and providing a framework for development.
When an individual understands their own type preferences they can make decisions, solve problems and manage their time in a style that best suits them. This awareness can also help them understand how other people prefer to work, and to accommodate different preferences. This unified approach to working and managing other people turns differences into strengths and can be the making of a strong group of people.
Use MBTI as a useful prompt for considering the way in which other people approach a situation, role or working relationship. For example:
- Advance agendas for meetings allow a certain type to do some thinking beforehand;
- Presenting highlights of information with details to hand accommodates people who prefer details and concrete facts;
- Showing equal appreciation for a person as well as the task recognises the value of subjective and objective types;
- Progress reports on tasks or projects reassures those who prefer a structured to an unstructured approach.
TSOC use MBTI because:
- It is versatile and widely used
- It works; a constructive approach promotes the differences between individuals
- It is quick to complete; easy to use, score and explain
- Clients enjoy it and usually find the results fascinating
- There is plenty of supporting material
